I named this picture self portrait because that is who I am. I read a story by Maria de Lourdes Victoria “Aves en las Almas/Birds in our Souls”, where the grandma reveals the secret that all of us women have a bird in our soul. After some soul searching I identified myself with the great egret because I am tall, long necked and my hair is wild like their plumage in the Spring. A great egret is not afraid to be seen alone at ponds or lagoons. She enjoys flying, but she always returns to her nest where her mate awaits and together they roost and tend to their chicks.

Taking pictures has always been my passion, and it could just be in my genes since my father had a dark room when I was growing up. I was born and raised in the beautiful coastal town of Veracruz, Mexico. I graduated from Universidad Cristobal Colón with a Business Degree. A wild wind from the ocean brought me to Rockport, TX where I currently reside. I continued my education in Texas A&M Corpus Christi and I have been teaching in Rockport-Fulton High School since 1991.
